| Object | M8 - The Lagoon Nebula |
| Comment | The Lagoon Nebula got its name from the dark dust lanes that run through the center. To the west is the open cluster NGC 6530 surrounded in the outer regions of nebulosity. Bok globules are abundant within the nebula producing small dark knots which are condensing protostellar clouds. The nebula is 4300 light years away and approximately 75 light years wide. This image is an LRGB composite. |
